Thank you! Well, here's a question: what do you think of Overeaters Anonymous? I am familiar with it, but would like to hear your, or anyone else's, opinion on it.

Regards,
Scott in Vermont

Comment on Stop Telling Me How To Diet -- You've All Got It Wrong, Wrong, Wrong

Over the past few months I have joined and then canceled a variety of online weight loss programs. The main reason I did not continue is the complexity of the diets and the cost of buying all that food. The diet books are the same. Who cooks different complex meals 3 times a day and changes every day? I once spent over $200 on groceries for one week and this was for one person. To add insult to injury, I did not like or enjoy most of the food that was recommended and was still hungry after eating it because my satisfaction level was so low. When I eat what I want and enjoy, I find that I am satisfied for a longer period of time and do not still have cravings after eating.
So.. I really think you are on to something here and I look forward to participating. Thanks!!

Comment on Good Housekeeping Contributor Offers Some Valuable No-Diet, Weight-Loss Insights

I discovered that my overeating wasn't due to real physical hunger, but I also wasn't eating due to "emotional" hunger--it was actually a biochemical hunger. I was low on the chemicals in my brain that control mood (serotonin, endorphins), and eating sweets & carbs raise those levels and make you feel temporarily better. Once I found the book "Potatoes Not Prozac," I was able to use a natural food program to raise my serotonin and endorphin levels, and stopped overeating, stopped feeling depressed/anxious, and lost the weight.

Comment on Stop Telling Me How To Diet -- You've All Got It Wrong, Wrong, Wrong

You are so correct about that Fat smash Diet by the Dr guy from Celebrity Fit Club. People in the real world have to live in it and we don't have the luxury to have private cooks like them. And, if you look in that book. the food that I like are the foods that I can't eat and the foods that I CAN eat are the ones that I do not like. I am trying to find a website or a book that will help me with a diet or better way of eating so I can enjoy foods that I like(the picky eater) Some books say to eat lots of Tomatoes or artichokes or B Sprouts; problem...I do not like these foods. And, the only fruit that I CAN eat are apples..as I don't like Kiwi or Mango or grapefruits. UGH!!! oh...I can't cut my meat out. I also want my meat!!!

Comment on Good Housekeeping Contributor Offers Some Valuable No-Diet, Weight-Loss Insights

We are delighted to have you participate in this blog. Welcome. We ALL love to eat. But in my opinion, overeating is an emotional response. Many foodies -- those who love to eat -- eat, but don't overdo it.

Wonder what others think......

Comment on Good Housekeeping Contributor Offers Some Valuable No-Diet, Weight-Loss Insights

I honestly beleive I overeat all the time because I just like to eat. I don't think I have any emotional issues. I am happy, have a wonderful DH and pets I love. We are not rich, but we don't mind being poor either. We get our bills paid,,we're happy. Could it be possible that some of us just like the taste of food and that is why we overeat. I stayed 20 lbs overweight since I quit smoking a long time ago but as I got older, I gained,,not so much because I ate more but because I stopped dancing and being active. It just comes on with age if you aren't careful. Next thing you know, you weigh a lot more than you did...
I have finally got it through my head, that if I want to eat the way I do,,I have to live a more active life,,so I bought one of those eqiliptal bicycles that excercise your whole body and am in the process of sitting up a garden. When I have fresh veggies in a garden,,,I tend to eat those a lot and the exercise is great.
I love your blog and I hope to be here for a while if you will have me.. : )

Comment on Stop Telling Me How To Diet -- You've All Got It Wrong, Wrong, Wrong

I agree. I feel that weight loss is pushed upon us way too much by the tv, the newspapers, friends we know, family, etc. People are obsessed with it. It gets old. I was kinda obsessed about it too for the longest time. I've been in a struggle to maintain my weight loss for about 7 years now and have drove myself nuts over it. Of course I'm trying to be sane about it and I agree that dieting is stupid. It's boring too. People were meant to eat a variety of foods not limit themselves to just one food group like that extreme fat smash diet plan claims a lot of weight loss (dont know the exact number of lbs) but it eliminates a lot of food from the plan in order to lose this weight. it kinda tempted me at one point to try it cuz i get desperate sometimes. But I think one of the days of the plan calls for all fruit and nothing else. and then all vegetables in one day and nothing else. then on the third day I believe it's slowly introducing other food groups. I cannot stand plans that eliminate protein cuz I get soo hungry for meat!
